Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi was a prominent scholar, yet he fell into serious errors in matters of creed. Among these errors is his statement concerning the Qur’an, in which he distinguished between different meanings of the term “Qur’an” and declared some of them to be created. Such a statement cannot be accepted, as the Qur’an is the Speech of Allah, and the Speech of Allah is uncreated.
Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi (d. 446 H) said: “The name Al-Qur’an includes five things, and this is a correct and equivalent term (of these five), of which four are created and one uncreated.” (Al-Fasl 3/7)
